Banham Zoo Meet

26th - 31st Aug

We arrived at Banham on a lovely sunny Wednesday, ‘One Better Day’, set up and got ready to put our awnings up, a strong wing came up out of nowhere. (Typical) we spent the next couple of hours helping everyone getting their awnings put up, standing on canvas, holding poles (you know what it’s like) and eventually all sat down for a well deserved cuppa.

It was a very busy day for Martin and Michele (the stewards) with lots of people arriving. And we celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary too, (‘It Must Be Love’) and we had a meal in a pub in the next village just ‘One Step Beyond’  the zoo.

On the Friday we got the party tent put up, but after the wind lifted it like ‘The Wings of a Dove’ we got it down twice as quick.
The ‘Wind and the Rain’ were a constant worry over the first couple of days, more wind and not much rain, but it didn’t spoil our enjoyment, of the site and surrounding area.

When Martin stood up for his little speech at coffee morning on the Sunday, Sam the bald headed eagle, from the zoo interrupted him with a fly past over our heads, much to Martins ‘Embarrassment’.

We were woken each morning and ‘In the middle of the night’ to the sound of the Donkey from the Zoo braying, and a little later the screeching of the monkeys. The zoo gave us all a discount for entry, and a ticket that once paid for allowed us to go into the zoo for the whole weekend. It’s a nice zoo and we particularly liked the ‘Swan Lake’, and seeing the tigers playing in the water on the Sunday was a real treat.

Caravans way outnumbered motor homes, with over 50 units in the field. Well done to Martin and Michele for their first meet as stewards, and thanks for a great time.

And for anyone in the know, there are some clues in here as to our theme for our meet at Steeple Bay in July 2010.
